National Apprenticeship Week – Case Study

Name:     Luke Gardiner

Apprenticeship Undertaken (Title / Level):     Business Administration Level 3

What did you enjoy the most about your apprenticeship?

I really enjoyed the sense of responsibility and the feeling of working in a team for the first time. Also as an apprentice you get to experience different parts of the job to gain lots of experience and also to help out with the course.

What interesting things did you get to do?

I got to take part in organising events and actually taking part in events. I also was responsible for purchasing items for clients which was really interesting as everyone was different and some of the stuff were really fascinating.

How has it helped you?

Really helped me grow in confidence and especially taking telephone queries and dealing with people much higher than myself.

What are you doing now?

I am working in HR as an Officer in Organisation Management and deal with employment contracts and help maintain the councils organisation structure. This is a permanent post and I have to say without my apprenticeship this wouldn’t have been possible.

What is the one thing you would say to somebody considering doing an apprenticeship?

They are a great way of getting your foot in the door if you are unemployed and from there anything is possible.

"If you feel that you're a bit different, don't worry and don't be afraid to go against the grain sometimes. Are you living your life or copying someone else? It can be hard to push out of your comfort zone but take a risk and have self belief."

"I would advise every school and head teacher to get involved with this, working on something real makes so much difference to our pupils and there is nothing like this out there especially to help the pupils study their business courses"
